If you’re anything like me, you’ve been spending every free second you have today exploring the new C-SPAN Video Library. What’s that you say? You aren’t a complete nerd and no, you haven’t watched the ‘SPAN since High School civics? Oh, my bad. The new online catalogue containing every Congressional hearing, session and meeting (going back to the ’80s) went live today, and man, it’s fun. I first checked out James Traficant’s final press conference before getting booted from the House. He was drinking from a styrophome cup and told a reporter that he wished he’d get “chirpies” disease.

Next, I went for the big guns. The 1985 Senate hearing on “Rock Lyrics Record Labeling.” You know, the one with Frank Zappa and Dee Snider. But my fave part came when some random guy was brought in by Tipper Gore to give a presentation a record covers. The fuck-and-sex laced profanity that came out of this man’s mouth was a bit shocking, I must admit. And the stuffy old senators were without a doubt uncomfortable.
